In his annual State of the City address, Dr, Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley, praised both the City government and MoVal residents for continuing to move forward despite the virus crisis.

“It’s traditional in these speeches to declare the state of our City to be strong, and I will not stray from that tradition. We are strong,” the Mayor stated. “Both our City government and the community it serves are showing their true strength every day as we respond to each new challenge that confronts us. As Mayor of our great City, I have been amazed and reassured by the community’s calm and determined response to this crisis, which is unprecedented in our lifetimes.”

In remarks streamed online and on TV this year instead of delivered to a large luncheon gathering, Mayor Gutierrez cited a long list of ways the City has responded rapidly to the crisis, acting on behalf of residents and businesses.

He also announced the selection of the following recipients of Community Leadership Awards:

  • Heathcare Heroes Award: Presented to staff at Riverside University Health System Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center on behalf of all local healthcare workers.
  • Community Leadership Award for Large Business: Solaris Paper
  • Community Leadership Award for Small Business: United Materials Handling

The Mayor also noted that the City’s economic-development strategy, which has included the healthcare, manufacturing and logistics industries, has served Moreno Valley well as demand for healthcare, medical device manufacturing, online shopping and home delivery has soared due to the pandemic.
