In his annual State of the City address, Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez proclaimed that the City is emerging from the Pandemic stronger than ever.

“I’m so glad to be back here in person with all of you to share a message of hope and good news — the State of our City is strong — I believe stronger than ever,” the Mayor stated in his address. “Our City was made stronger by the events of 2020, a year unlike any other in our history. During this time, we experienced a tale of two cities: One marked by an extraordinary sense of doom and gloom and the other by our strength and perseverance.”

In his remarks, Mayor Gutierrez shared many of the City’s major accomplishments as well as plans for the future, including a new Town Center, an Aquatic Center, and many more opportunities for residents and businesses.

Community Leadership Awards were presented to the following:

  • Healthcare Hero – Apple Urgent Care – Dr. Surya Reddy
  • Community Partner of the Year – Al-Rahma Food Bank
  • Community Member of the Year – Miesha Slayton
  • Educator of the Year – Dr. Martinrex Kedziora
  • Excellence in Education – Dr. Angelo Farooq
  • Business of the Year – Harbor Freight Tools

The Mayor also noted that the City’s economic-development strategy, which has included the healthcare, manufacturing, and logistics industries, has served Moreno Valley well as demand for healthcare, medical device manufacturing, online shopping, and home delivery has soared due to the Pandemic.
